The roots of Ivory Hill

If you know me, you will know I absolutely love when a brand comes with a story behind it, and Ivory Hill did just that!

I first met the founder, Kamie, in a very unexpected way. My cousin was due to photograph one of Ivory Hill’s floral workshops, but the model cancelled last minute. Of course, I was roped in. One minute I was in my pyjamas on Jess’s sofa, the next I was dressed as a bride holding a bouquet, standing next to a Doberman in a pearl necklace…it’s giving Vogue!

I am far more comfortable behind my laptop than in front of the camera, but it turned into one of those random situations that works out perfectly. Kamie later did my cousin’s wedding flowers too, so it all stemmed from there. (Pun very much intended!)

Fast-forward, and she trusted me with the full rebrand of Ivory Hill. This one was special. Created in honour of her Nan, every detail had to shine through. Her favourite flower. Her signature butterfly. The family name built into Ivory Hill. Straight away, I knew this brand was never going to be about simply creating something pretty. It needed to feel personal. Proof that little things are never really little.

This project took me straight back to pen and paper. After over one hundred floral drawings (no, I am not exaggerating), we finally met the perfect sweet pea. Soft, simple, recognisable. The one that just felt right.

From there, everything else fell into place. The colour palette. The typography. The butterfly woven through the pattern. The gentle arch within the H for Hill. Nothing overdone. Nothing loud. Just a thoughtful brand, full of small details that actually mean something.

When I sent the final files over, Kamie’s message made every minute of sketching worth it.

“I LOVEEEEEEEE the design! It made me cry to see the butterflies, you honestly have no idea how much it means to me and I really wish I could show my nan! I can’t thank you enough for trying so hard with it, you are incredible.”

These are the moments that remind me exactly why I do what I do.
